It is a group of domed huts made of dry stone and used for agricultural and pastoral activities which during the summer took advantage of the mountain slopes as well for cultivation which were more resistant to cold weather, such as the solina wheat and spelt, besides the abundance of pastures. This little and typical village, situated at an altitude of more than 1,100 m., was created in 1940 thanks to the work of Giuseppe Parete from Roccamorice, on commission of Agostino Palumbo, and completed in about 40 days by a group of 15 workers. We can see houses with paved floors and equipped with fireplace, storage closets, fold, stockyard and warehouse for tools. The Pescara side of Majella is particularly rich in this type of buildings which together with different building models, were used as occasional shelters or as real seasonal homes, as in the case of Civita Hill.
The Cooperative Majambiente organizes daily tours during summer and on Saturdays and Sundays in low-season. Reservation required by contacting +39 085 92 23 43. Fees are available on the dedicated website and they change according to the duration of the visit: guided tour for 20 participants 60 EUR. |
