The Church of San Panfilo “out of the walls”, seat of the local provostry until 1604, was opened for worship before 1070. The basilican map with vestibule shows the room divided into three aisles and three domes with longitudinal round arches. The ceiling made of wooden boards is lacunar.
The facade was subject of significant restorations in 1480, by the Ranciano and then in 1489. After the two above mentioned interventions, it became flat with depressed arched frontal. The portal surmounted by a lintel, shows two shelves decorated with swirl motifs and patterns of roses, typical of the Abruzzi art. In the inside we can admire the main altar dedicated to the Patron Saint San Panfilo and six side altars, three Baroque and three in neoclassical style. The Baroque bell tower, built perhaps on an older structure, shows a fine octagonal dome and it is considered a national monument. Open to the public only during public holidays |
